What an amazing place to be. I arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada late on Monday, Feb. 20, just in time to attend the KLAS award reception and see ChartMaxx, our enterprise-wide electronic patient record system, receive the award for being ‘Best in KLAS’ for healthcare Document Management and Imaging (DMI) software. The reception was held in the Vintner Grill at Neiman Marcus, overlooking the Las Vegas strip, where many attendees watched the best vendors collect awards for having superior products, excellent customer service and fulfilling client promises.
Tuesday morning, Quest Diagnostics introduced a 30-day ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) implementation guarantee for hospitals and IDNs. This exciting program is the first ever in the industry and offers an EHR solution that hospital executives can roll out to their associated ambulatory practices, along with a bi-directional data exchange. The offer is designed to help accelerate the development of virtual provider networks.
In the Care360 HIMSS Booth (2813), Champion Lasso Artist and Entertainer Loop Rawlins performed amazing rope tricks and even tried to teach me a few tricks. Program Office Director Bob Weiss presented the next generation of ChartMaxx by introducing technology that includes Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Business Process Management (BPM). Both presenters will repeat their presentations throughout the week, so be sure to stop by.
Social media played a large part at HIMSS this year. Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, welcomed HIMSS attendees during his keynote session. Among his words of wisdom was the phrase, “we will win if we always do the right thing for our users.” This is one of the many beliefs he tries to instill in his employees, and a good mantra for all companies to embrace.
The HIMSS social media center was also buzzing with a steady stream of visitors, a non-stop stream of #HIMSS12 tagged Twitter posts, and a very interesting panel discussion by some top physician bloggers who offered suggestions of tools to use (Tweetdeck and Hootsuite) and held a discussion on their favorite channels (Twitter and blogs).
I am looking forward to the next few days that are sure to provide lots of industry insights, networking opportunities and non-stop entertainment.
