Care360 Case Study: Dr. Stuart Schneller
For 40 years, Dr. Stuart Schneller’s private practice in Brighton, Massachusetts specialized in rheumatology. He employed three staff members and saw 8 to14 patients per day. Nearly 40% of those were Medicare patients. Now semi-retired after recently selling his private practice, Dr. Schneller currently works as an affiliated physician at a local hospital clinic.
While in private practice, Dr. Schneller had been maintaining paper records until 2012, when he decided to switch to an electronic health record (EHR). He had experience using EHRs in the hospital-based clinic he was associated with; however, he did not want to adopt that same EHR for his own practice. With Dr. Schneller splitting his time between his Brighton office and his offices in Wilmington and Cambridge, Massachusetts, he needed software that would be as mobile as he was.
The doctor chose Care360 EHR and Practice Management (PM).
“I chose the Care360 EHR and practice management technology because of the value and usability,” said Dr. Schneller. “The cloud-based functionality was also vitally important.”
Those features, along with the easy integration with Care360 Labs & Meds and ePrescribing from Quest Diagnostics, sold him on the technology.
Dr. Schneller’s office made the switch from paper to electronic records, and never looked back.
“We went fully electronic in day one,” he said. “There was no transition period; we went all in with the EHR. One bonus was that any patients we had sent to have lab work done at Quest from the past 6 to 8 years were already uploaded and delivered to us electronically. That amounted to 800 patient demographics that we didn’t have to worry about transitioning—a huge time savings. We only had to create files for new patients or those who never had Quest lab work. For those patients we spent a lot of time scanning their information.”
Dr. Schneller said that the EHR has helped to unify his practice. No matter which office he was working from, he was able to pull up a patient record or test results on his laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Everything he needed would be there.
“The fact that the Care360 technology was cloud-based was a big plus for me,” said Dr. Schneller. “I had the same capability and speed no matter where I was. It gave me the mobility to easily perform my work from any of my three offices, or even from home, without a change in workflow. I really appreciate that flexibility.”
