The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) recently introduced the Stage 2 requirements associated with the Incentive Program for Meaningful Use of an Electronic Health Record. In the new rules, which become effective in 2014, providers must meet 17 core objectives and three menu objectives. One of the required objectives relates to sharing information with other providers.
The requirements stipulate that providers must provide summary of care documents for more than 50 percent of transitions of care and referrals, with 10 percent being sent electronically, and at least one must be sent to a recipient with a different EHR vendor.
For many EHR vendors, extensive programming is needed to meet this rule. For Care360, this is a function that has been in place for quite some time. In February 2011, Quest Diagnostics was the first EHR vendor to incorporate Direct Project specifications. Today, that functionality is more powerful than ever, as the number of vendors incorporating this standard increases.
Care360 Direct Secure Messaging allows providers to send patient information to any other provider who has a Direct address. This includes patient charts, uploaded documents, lab results and more. It expands the capability of Care360 and offers you the opportunity to improve coordination of care by exchanging data with community providers outside your practice, no matter what electronic system they are currently using.
With Direct Messaging you can:
- Coordinate care recommendations
- Send referral letters
- Receive discharge reports
- Share patient information including patient history, problem lists and medications
You do not need to be a current Care360 EHR customer to take advantage of this functionality. Care360 Direct Secure Messaging is available to all users of Care360, including those who use the complimentary Care360 Labs & Meds.
Care360 Direct can be used to connect communities of care, facilitating the exchange information with other Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) and health networks.
Care360 Direct Secure Messaging is now available for free until 2014*. After that time, a nominal fee will apply. To get started, simply follow the instructions below or contact your sales representative.
*The Care360 Direct Messaging feature (available for a fee in Care360 Labs & Meds and included at no cost in Care360 EHR) is free for all Care360 Labs & Meds users until 2014. In 2014, Care360 Direct Messaging will be available for only $180 per physician, per year for Care360 Labs & Meds users.
